Shoebill, Sudan
Today we’re watching the Shoebill, a truly unusual bird. The Shoebill (also called a Whalehead) is found mostly in the swamps of tropical East Africa. Historically ornithologists have argued over whether the Shoebill belongs to the pelican family or the stork family. More likely the Shoebill actually represents a missing link between the two families. But you know ornithologists—always feeling ornery. Groan.
