Rüppells Vulture, Islamic Republic of Mauritania
This charmer here is named in honor of a 19th century German explorer and zoologist, Eduard Rüppell. Rüppell’s Vulture is considered the world’s highest flying bird. It has flown at confirmed heights of over 11,000 meters—nearly 7 miles up!
